When the library was inaugurated in 1981, Louis Aragon, who was too old and ill, was unable to travel to Martigues, but his secretary gave the City a donation of fifty-seven books (mainly original editions of works by Louis Aragon and Elsa Triolet), on behalf of the writer, as well as the manuscript of a speech, works which constitute the “Aragon donation”.

At the same time, all the documents written by Louis Aragon or Elsa Triolet as well as those dealing with the two authors are kept under the name "Aragon collection".

The documents of the Aragon donation are available for on site consultation only.
