Who can come to the media library?

The media library is open to everyone regardless of their place of residence.

Do I have to be a subscriber to view documents?

Access to the media library and on site reading are free. To borrow any document, you must register.

How to register?

Registration is free regardless of where you live. The card is issued on presentation of an identity document. It is advisable to report any change in situation, any loss or theft of the registration card.

You can also pre-register on the website of the media library; registration will be validated by a librarian the next time you visit the media library.

I cannot connect to the site. What is my password?

For the oldest members (before 01/24/2020): the year of your birth + the first 4 letters of your name + the first letter of your first name, all in capital letters.
For example: 1997MARTP for a MARTIN Paul born in 1997

For members since 01/24/2020: Your birthdate, written in the French way.
For example: 15051957 for someone born on May 15th, 1957

You can also use the "Forgotten password" function. You will need to enter your library card number, then you will receive an email to the address provided when you registered, with a link to copy / paste and a temporary password. We will then ask you to create a new password, more secure than your birthdate.

How to borrow and return documents?

The number of loans is unlimited, except for DVDs where it is limited to 5 per card.

Yo can borrow, return, and renew items at our self-service stations, in all areas of the multimedia library except in local libraries and the Médiabus. Don't hesitate to ask librarians if you don't know how these machines work. On the other hand, a return box next to the main entrance allows you to return your borrowed items when the building is closed.

All our documents can be borrowed except from standar reference books (dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc.) and daily papers.

What is the term of the loan?

21 days during the year, 60 days during the summer time, from June 15th to August 15th.

How do I renew my checked out items? Why can't I renew?

You can request a renewal of your checked items either by coming to the media library, or through phone, or from the media library's website.

The renewal postpones the expected return date of your items by 21 days, starting from the day of your request.

The renewal isn't allowed when the item is already reserved, or when its return date is exceeded by 10 days, or if your card is already blocked.

Can we return the documents to any library (Louis Aragon, Canto-Perdrix, Médiabus)?

Documents can be returned to any library belonging to our network, regardless of the library you borrowed them.

What types of documents can I find in the multimedia library?

You will find at the multimedia library books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, Blurays, audio books, and in large print, as well as online resources: press, self-training and courses, video on demand.

Where do I find the DVDs?

Films and series are on the top floor of the media library, in the Picture & Sound area.

Where do I find the press?

The press area is located in the reception hall. The daily newspapers and magazines for the current month are to be consulted on site. Previous issues can be borrowed.

How do I search for a document?

You can search for a document using the search bar at the top of the site by typing a title, the name of an author or publisher, a collection, or any keyword, then clicking search. The search is carried out among all the elements of the bibliographic records, including their synopsis.

You can then filter the results of your search using the facets; each new click on one of them will add a search criterion. The magnifying glass icon with a + takes you directly to advanced search, where you can aim your query more precisely.

You can also search for an article on the site by choosing under the search bar the option "throughout the site". The librarians are at your disposal to assist you in this research.

I can't find the document I'm looking for, what can I do?

Don't hesitate to ask the librarians for help! If the document is in reserve, we can pick it up for you. If it is borrowed, you can place a hold on the item.

Please note that journals cannot be reserved.

If the document you are looking for is not in our collections, you can suggest it to us for purchase. Either on site, by noting it on the suggestions books in the spaces of the media library, or directly on the site. We can also request documents from another library.

When I am logged in, what else can I do on the site?

Once logged in, you can:

  • View your current loans and extend them.
  • Reserve an item
  • Be informed of the availability of your reservations.
  • Create lists of documents.
  • Consult the history of your searches.
  • Check the contact details entered on your card (address, telephone, email, date of birth).
  • Access the digital resources of the media library

How can I reserve a document?

First, sign in using your library card number and associated password.

Then, at the bottom right of each search result or on each document detail, you will see the "reserve" button appear. Clicking on it will then ask you to choose the provisioning library: the place where you can collect the reserved document, when it will be put aside for you. Click on Validate and the document is reserved.

To check it, click on your name at the top right of the site, and choose My reservations. You will then be notified, either by email or by post, of the availability of the document which will have to be collected from the media library.

What are the selections for?

Selections are lists compiled by librarians. Some of them will be regularly updated (news, for example). That’s why you can subscribe to the selections to receive notifications when we add documents to them.

Can I get a longer checkout period?

You can request a longer checkout period by either coming to the media library, or by telephone, or by using this website. (My loans > then click on any "extend this loan")

The extension is not possible if the document is already reserved, or if its return date was expired by 10 days, or if your card is blocked.

Can we access to the internet within the multimedia library?

The media library provides the public with workstations with access to the internet in each space, as well as a free WiFi connection. You must be registeredto be able to use this service. You can check your email, social networks, work on word processing or spreadsheets, connect a USB key. You can also print documents free of charge up to 10 pages per day and per person.

Can we make photocopies?

The Louis Aragon multimedia library has a scanner-photocopier in each space. This service is free and limited to 10 pages per day and per person, just like printing. Under special conditions, staff give themselves the right to derogate from this rule.

Does the library hold events?

The multimedia library regularly holds events for children and adults: workshops, conferences, concerts, literary meetings, etc. For more information, see the Agenda> Upcoming events and Agenda> Regular events sections. Keep in mind most of our events are in French.

I am coming with a group, how can I organize my visit?

The multimedia library can accommodate group visits. Just contact us to fix an appointment.

While traveling abroad, I was unable to access the media library website. Why?

You can consult this website from abroad but only from certain countries for security reasons.
